Volunteer with CAF
CAF is primarily a volunteer-based organization. We believe that volunteering is mutually beneficial, and view it through a framework of solidarity, not charity. We want to connect community members who are interested in volunteering with a role that fits both their interests and capacity. Below are our main volunteer needs, ordered from lowest to highest involvement, but if you have a special skill, area of knowledge, or expertise not listed here, we are happy to discuss a new project. All roles require a screening process, and we do not guarantee a role will be available at the time of your interest, but we are very eager to meet you and learn what’s possible.
Support Our Calls to Action
Join a Google group (different from our newsletter) to receive action alerts related to areas you’re interested in supporting. This is a flexible, low-pressure way for busy parents and caregivers to support youth climate justice work. You will always be able to choose what works with your schedule or decline what doesn’t. Let us know if you want to opt in to one of the following areas:
-
Policy / Campaign action alerts (for actions such as signing petitions, writing to your legislators, etc)
-
Event Help role alerts (for actions like picking up food, helping set up events, attending outings, etc)
-
“Fund-a-need” alerts (for occasional requests to the community for financial contributions to help make a specific youth opportunity or project possible)
Be A School Liaison
If you are a teacher/educator or have connections to environmental and social justice educators, be our liaison! Environmental fairs, Earth Day workshops, class presentations, club visits, you name it—we want to connect.
Provide Event Support
CAF hosts or supports anywhere from 15 to 30 events per year. We often need support from volunteers who can:
-
Pick up food donations from restaurants
-
Manage the food table at events
-
Help with set-up/take-down
-
Run errands before or during the event
-
Chaperone on trips, e.g. to Olympia for Lobby Day
-
Other logistical tasks as needed
Volunteers would always be able to decline a task if it doesn’t work with their schedule.
Be a CAF Ambassador
Give informative talks at schools, libraries, clubs, neighborhood association meetings, etc; sign up for tabling opportunities in the community; and help distribute flyers to community centers to help get CAF’s name out. Volunteers in speaking roles will be provided with training and talking points.
Help Feed Our Movement
To support families during our all-ages meetings (often on school nights!) we are looking for volunteers to batch-prepare meals. Head count will vary, but any contribution is great. If you enjoy preparing food for others and want to help nourish the youth climate movement, sign up for our school-year meal train! Get in touch for suggestions on easy food to make in batches.
