Climate Cafes!

Monthly | Next Meet: June 24, 6PM

Inspired by the “death cafe” movement, Climate Cafes first started in rural Scotland in 2015 as a space to express thoughtsfeelings and experiences around the topic of climate change. From there, climate cafes started popping up all around the world, helping people find community, stay grounded, inspire each other and heal together. Climate Action Families is on the map now with its own Climate Cafe series for youth ages 12-17! We’ll meet every fourth Wednesday of the month and alternate between virtual and in person, so stay tuned and reach out if you want to know more.

Here’s what’s on deck for each session:

  • Thoughtful discussion of climate topics chosen by youth
  • Hands-on activities and resources for building resilience
  • Peer support and relationship building between youth
  • And more!

Register here for virtual summer sessions! (In-person sessions will start after summer. Check back for more info.)

Accessibility and Inclusion: These events are FREE and open to any youth 12-17 years old. Please let us know how we can make this space more accessible to your youth. View our Community Privacy Agreement here.

Advocacy Trainings!

Our trainings include games, art, and hands-on activities in nature to make learning about environmental action fun- and empower the next generation of our climate alliance. • Make new Climate Justice Friends
  • Discover Youth Activism
  • Build Community Resilience
  • Find your Place in the Movement!

Each seasonal training educates youth on environmental action and the climate movement at a new, unique angle and theme- more details on the upcoming theme will be available soon. RSVP coming soon!

Accessibility and Inclusion: Our priority is inclusivity, ensuring everyone interested can join us in this vital effort. Our trainings are FREE, and the location will be ADA-accessible.

Youth Advisory Board!

Next Board Meeting: COMING SOON

The Youth Advisory Board is a space for young people to help shape the future of Climate Action Families. In partnership with researchers from the University of Washington and Seattle Children’s Research Institute, participants come together to share their experiences, discuss issues affecting youth and climate, and provide feedback on CAF programs and initiatives.

Through guided conversations and collaborative activities, board members explore topics such as climate change, community engagement, youth well-being, and leadership while helping ensure that youth voices remain at the center of our work.

Youth interested in making an impact, connecting with peers, and helping strengthen climate-focused opportunities for young people are encouraged to participate!

CAF Outdoor Program!

Quarterly Outdoor Event | All Ages

Join Climate Action Families for our quarterly Outdoor Program, where youth and families come together to reconnect with the natural world. Through hikes, beach walks, and other outdoor adventures, we create opportunities to slow down, explore local ecosystems, and build community in nature.

Climate action begins with connection. Spending time outdoors helps us remember what we are working to protect while offering space to recharge, reflect, and experience the beauty of our environment firsthand. All are welcome!

Stay tuned on our Instagram & newsletter for the upcoming Outdoor event!

Coming Back to Life: Connection, Grief, and Action for these Times

Monthly on the 3rd Saturday | 10AM-12PM

Coming Back to Life: Connection, Grief, and Action for these Times draws from Joanna Macy’s Work That Reconnects. Together, we engage in collective practices that deepen our capacity for dwelling with difficult emotions and strengthen our strategies for coping in uncertain times.

We typically meet from 10 am to noon on the third Saturday of the month, but meet quarterly in person from 9:30 am to 1:30 pm @ Puget Ridge Cohousing Common House.

Register here for each session you plan to attend. We welcome adults (18+) for as many or as few meetings as you would like!

The Climate Grief and Empowerment Group is co-sponsored by 350 Seattle and Climate Action Families, out of the recognition that ongoing emotional support plays a critical role in building community resilience and robust social movements.

Past Programs

Healthy Homes for All Campaign

Climate Action Families partnered with Families for Climate in Oregon and Families for a Livable Climate in Montana to engage in advocacy and training aimed at accelerating the adoption of clean, healthy electric appliances and ensuring the equitable distribution of Inflation Reduction Act incentives to people living in both rural and urban communities, as well as to renters and homeowners. The campaign focused on:

  • Developing and expanding the use of tools and support systems that helped families navigate home electrification.
  • Building networks of local advocates equipped with tools and training to support the electrification of schools and community centers.
  • Advancing state and local policies that supported equitable implementation of IRA incentives and the Justice40 Initiative by broadly sharing powerful climate stories through storytelling and ambassador programs.

Talk Climate

Talking about climate in schools, homes, communities, and workplaces was one of the most important climate actions people could take.

The Talk Climate website served young people, caregivers, and professionals who wanted to learn how to have productive, courageous, and empowering conversations about climate change. Its resources were age-appropriate, emotionally responsive, and designed to help people build the emotional and interpersonal capacity needed to face the climate era.

Student Strike Support

Climate Action Families supported high school students participating in the global climate strike movement by providing organizing assistance, resources, and guidance for student-led climate action efforts. Students were encouraged to reach out with questions or requests for support related to organizing strikes and climate advocacy at their schools.
