CAF’s 11th Birthday Party

CAF's 11th Birthday Party!

Friends gathered at Meridian Park to celebrate CAF’s 11th Birthday with a pizza and potluck feast, music, and an unforgettable skit that united everyone in defeating the nefarious forces behind I-2117 and the other statewide initiatives.

Percy and Emory, with lightsabers in hand, looped all the youth into a thrilling battle between the good people of Washington State and Darth-2117, played by Emory. Percy personified the heroic efforts of the Climate Commitment Act and rallied the youth to fight back to defend the resources for electric school buses, clean air in their schools, jobs for the parents, and much more.

The skit demonstrated the billions of dollars that 2117 would steal from the projects already underway that improve everyone’s lives – from better transportation options to clean air to clear water – and all of the jobs Washingtonians will lose if I-2117 passes. (Learn more about what we would lose here – Risk of Repeal Map)

The CAF team successfully defeated Darth 2117 in a chorus of unscripted taunts from youths aged 5-14 that had everyone laughing.

“You’re the worst!”

“Don’t take our jobs!”

“That mask doesn’t even look good on you!”

Three members from the Climate Citizens Lobby (CCL) joined the celebration to answer policy questions about I-2117. Led by Percy and Emory, CAF’s No on 2117 Team is working in coalition with CCL and hundreds of other groups and businesses to defeat all four Darth-Initiatives on the November ballot.

Please Vote NO on these four state-wide initiatives!

  • I-2117: A purposely misleading initiative opposed by firefighters, small business owners, doctors, Tribal Nations and more. No to more pollution. No to more traffic congestion.

  • I-2066: Increases energy bills and attacks energy efficiency by repealing and prohibiting commonsense protections.

  • I-2109: Repeals Washington’s limited capital gains tax, eliminating over $2.2 billion in funding for education, childcare, and early learning by giving a tax break to the state’s wealthiest.

  • I-2124: Seeks to dismantle WA Cares, Washington’s long-term care benefit program, potentially stripping over 3 million workers of over $8.1 billion in guaranteed, earned benefits.

After the skit, CAF’s music team got everyone singing, and folx ate their fill while impromptu lightsaber battles continued with the addition of bicycles. CAF friends left Meridian Park chuckling and with smiles on their faces — and the kids didn’t even notice that we forgot to bring the cupcakes! 🙀 Check out the Instagram Reel.

Thank you to all who attended CAF’s 11th Birthday Party! It was a great example of the creative, intergenerational force that makes CAF so special.
