January 2024 Monthly Meeting
We were joined by members of Seattle Cruise Control (SCC) to help us understand how cruise ships pollute our waters, poison our air, endanger our health, jeopardize our climate, overwhelm destination communities and exploit onboard workers.

Things got off to a fun start by putting on some of SCC’s dolphin costumes and playing an exciting game of “red light, green light” towards the “Defiler of the Seas”, a costume that helps depict the air and water pollution these giant ships create.

When cruise ships come back to Seattle on Saturday April 6th, there will be a family friendly demonstration down at the Pier 66 waterfront from 10am – 12pm.
There’ll be lots of art, chants, fliers, and music. The event will feature a press conference where youth playing sea creature characters including The Walrax, Doctor Dolphin and a Worker Whale speak in Dr Seuss-style rhymes about how cruise ships pollute our waters, poison our air, endanger our health, jeopardize our climate, and exploit onboard workers.
Bianca, gave us a preview by reciting one of the parts. “My name is the Walrax and I speak for the seas!”

Please reach out to StacyOaks425@gmail.com if you are interested in playing a sea creature at either the demonstration or a Port Commission Meeting during the summer.
We would also love some youth chant leaders for April 6th!
