Our December Monthly Meeting was hosted in collaboration with the Chiapas Education Project! Together, we celebrated the season with a traditional Mexican Posada- featuring a delicious taco bar with authentic flavors, horchata, desserts, and lively activities like piñata breaking, raffles, and art-making. Attendees also had the opportunity to learn about the meaningful work of the Chiapas Education Project, an organization making an incredible difference in the lives of under-resourced communities.
Chris Esponda shared the impactful work the Chiapas Education Project does to bring technology to under-resourced communities in Chiapas and Pine Ridge.
What is the Chiapas Education Project?
The Chiapas Education Project is a non-profit dedicated to empowering communities in Chiapas, Mexico, and Pine Ridge, South Dakota, by providing technology, resources, and educational opportunities.
- Promoting Education in Rural Areas: CEP bridges the digital divide by delivering laptops, tablets, and other essential tools to schools and families in remote areas. These resources open doors for students to access a world of knowledge, despite limited infrastructure in the areas they live in.
- Empowering Indigenous Communities: Many of the communities CEP serves are home to Indigenous populations who face systemic challenges. CEP supports these communities with culturally relevant resources that honor their heritage while providing modern tools for advancement.
- Supporting Pine Ridge Reservation: Beyond Chiapas, CEP extends its reach to Pine Ridge, South Dakota, addressing educational disparities in the Lakota Nation. Their efforts strengthen cross-cultural ties and demonstrate a commitment to uplifting marginalized communities globally.
- Fostering Community Leadership: CEP doesn’t just provide resources—they cultivate leadership and collaboration within the communities they serve. By empowering locals to become educators and advocates, the project creates sustainable change that lasts for generations.
