Low Tide Beach Walk!

On Saturday, July 26, families from CAF Families gathered at Richmond Beach Saltwater Park for our annual Low Tide Beach Walk– a full day of discovery, play, and learning along the shoreline.

As the tide pulled back, the beach revealed its hidden treasures. Kids eagerly searched for crabs, and were thrilled to find some impressively large ones! We also spotted moon snail shells, colorful sea stars, beached jellyfish, and all kinds of marine life tucked into tidepools. Each new find sparked excitement, questions, and proud shouts of “Look what I found!” across the beach.

The group walked nearly five miles along the water, taking time to pause for short lessons on moon tide cycles, beach-traveling etiquette, and how climate change is affecting these fragile coastal ecosystems. These moments of reflection connected our discoveries to the bigger picture, reminding us why caring for our local environment matters so deeply.

Midway through the walk, we stopped at the sand spit for lunch, sharing snacks and stories together. After eating our lunches, some youth dove into the waves while others built a giant sand fortress, enjoying the hard-earned fun after the walk.

CAF’s Low Tide Beach Walk is one of our community’s favorite traditions. Thank you to everyone who joined us this year– we can’t wait to explore the shoreline with you again next summer!
