Onward! Honoring Transitions Recap

This month was CAF’s annual Onward! celebration, where we honor our CAF members that are going through a transition of any sort. In the backyard of longtime CAF members Grace and Allie, families arrived with dishes in hand and stories in their hearts. Some were celebrating a new job, some were celebrating graduation, some had finished a chapter of work, and some were simply moving forward in their lives in quiet, meaningful ways. Onward! was created to mark those moments surrounded by the CAF community.

The evening was built around the idea of migration. Just like salmon swimming upstream, monarchs crossing continents, or geese flying in formation, we humans move through seasons of growth and transition– and we rarely do it alone.

Guests rotated through small tables, each themed after a migrating animal. At each one, we shared food and stories: about what it means to change, to let go, to grow up, to begin again. We honored how different every journey is, and how valuable each person’s voice can be along the way.

At the end of the evening, our graduates gathered separately in the garden gazebo– a space we called The Chrysalis Circle. Then, with petals scattered on the ground and bells gently ringing, they walked up the pathway while the rest of us stood in two long lines to welcome them back.

We closed with a circle and a blessing, and celebrated Emory’s 10 years of leadership and growth within CAF. And we reminded ourselves that transitions are not ends — they are beginnings.

Wherever our honorees go next, they carry the love, support, and memory of this night with them. And no matter how far we each migrate, this community is always here to welcome us home.
